“Witchery: A compelling power exercised by beauty, eloquence, or other attractive or fascinating qualities. An irresistible fascination.”

A phone buzzes and the aftershock makes the earth tremble. But in the next second, it’s gone. With such instantaneous stimulation - the information, the opinions, the rumours - our feet burn from the hours of passionate energy shed as we dance to try and forget it all, if only for a moment. The grime of the outside world melts into a hallucinatory rainbow, idols flash onto seemingly endless screens and we howl with a fervour previously saved for the devoutly religious.

The person you thought was a role model becomes a demon overnight and your mother will never stop scolding you for singing the latest pop-culture hymn in the shower. “It’s damaging” she says, as two fragmented lines from some alien’s subconscious speak to you in a way no one else ever could. They lead you for a time, take you high but eventually throw you down onto the dance floor - and before you know it you’re ready for another round. Trial and error. Process of elimination. It was only a phase. They’re all surely just pseudonyms for “lesson”, right?
